  1. bonjour,

    1. Hey, I replied to your earlier post here: http://chromixium.org/guidebook/comment-page-1/#comment-3761

Try disabling hardware acceleration in Chrome settings, advanced settings for video. Your netbook is very old and underpowered and Ubuntu has moved on a lot since 10.04. Unfortunately some sound/video drivers do not get maintained or included forever and Chromium browser can be quite RAM intensive. I’d love to help you get it working though, I fear it may be in vain. The new forum is a much better place for ongoing support though if you fancy signing up: https://cublinux.com/forum

    2. What RichJack said, disabling hardware acceleration in advanced settings in Chromium or Chrome if you install it, worked in my wife’s older Dell Inspiron 1525 fixed a problem where the screen would snap black when playing any kind of video, ( YouTube or whatever ) while using Zorin OS, the same thing happened again after installing Chromixium 1.5 in that older laptop unit. Un-checking that fixed the problem.

    1. Intel processors, Wi-Fi and graphics are well supported. If you have Broadcom Wi-Fi then you’ll need to connect to your router over Ethernet until after installation so that the driver can be downloaded (tick install additional software during installation). Any problems, come and see us at the new forums, https://cublinux.com/forum

  4. Hi, I installed chromixium 1.5 32 on my 64 bits PC and I want to move to chromixium 1.5 64. Is it some very easy way to do that ? Thanks

    1. Hi Fabian, unfortunately because they are 2 different architectures, it does require a clean install. If you are not in a hurry, you may want to wait 3/4 weeks for the rebranded Cub Linux 64 bit release?

      1. Hi Richjack, thank you for your replay. It will be nice installing the rebranded Cub Linux 64. So I`ll wait

    1. Not in the default install. You will need to upgrade the kernel after installation to enable the touchpad: sudo apt-get install linux-image-generic-lts-vivid.

  5. I just installed cub linux 64 and it runs great. The only issue I have is every time I go to the chrome store the screen goes black and I have to shut down the computer to get the screen back again. I read that I should be able to run chrome apps but can’t if the screen goes black on the site. This is the only site where this happens. Is it something to do with google trying to block the use of this software?

    1. Try going into Chrome settings and then to advanced settings. You must un-check ( use hardware acceleration when available ) this was a problem in my wife’s older 32 bit laptop. It cured the screen snapping off and going black, then having to reboot to get the screen back. It worked for us, hope it works for you.

  7. Hi, we are using Chromixium in a school environment and it is working great even on very cheap (old) laptops. As our pupils sometimes change the browser settings during a lesson, we would like to reset them at startup, not to factory settings but to the settings we want (like cleaning up all history and cookies). Is this possible?

    1. In Chrome/Chromium settings try:
      Show advanced settings
      Privacy –> Content settings
Keep local data only until you quit your browser

Please start following us at the new Cub Linux website as this site will be closing at the end of the month:

We have forums too where you can get more help and advice 🙂

      1. Hi RichJack,
Tx for your answer, we have already set this, but even this setting is sometimes changed … So what we realy want is at startup reset everything like we want it (desktop, browser settings, …) to the settings we want and clean up everything (cookies, files, …). So it would look like the laptop was never used before.

      2. Hi Frank.

I might be clutching at straws here. But maybe you could just let them all log in on guest accounts and as soon as they log out the history etc will be gone. Based on answers from unix forum for mac os x

      3. I tried out al suggestions (existing guest user and new created student user including rm and cp statements to re-initialise the home directory for student) but it seems like the problem is situated at the Chrome browser level: if a student agrees to remember the password it is always remembered, even using the guest account. BTW: the “notify me of new comments” option does not seem to work …

  8. hey i just instaled chromixium and i have 2 problems.First when i open the browser or the youtube it just crashes and gets me to the lock screen. The second problem is that i am hearing noises from the speakers

    1. A video tutorial will come soon. There isn’t really a one-size fits all method though, it depends on your Windows 10 setup, how much disk space you have etc… You need to shutdown Windows properly – no sleep or hibernate otherwise the installer won’t be able to shrink the Windows partition to make room. You might need to disable hybrid sleep temporarily until you’ve got Chromixium/Cub installed.
Then boot up the live USB (I am assuming that you can make the USB as that’s a different question). Start the installer from the icon in the dock. Answer the questions as appropriate for your language, keyboard etc. On the installation type, select Install Alongside Windows Bootloader. A bar will appear showing Windows on the left and space being freed up for the new installation on the right. Drag the bar where you want. You need about 6GB as a minimum, but as much as you want. Complete the steps on the installer and reboot at the end. A menu should appear with a choice of Chromixium or Windows 10.

      1. Generally, right-click on a running program’s icon in the dock and select Keep in Dock. If it won’t pin, then the program isn’t compatible and it’s launcher would need modifying. What program are you having problems with?

        Like

    1. Try this: Open a terminal (ctrl+alt+t) and type alsamixer.
Scroll to the right using the right-arrow key until you come across auto-mute.
Press the down arrow to disable it.
      Press Esc to exit.

      1. ok so i fixed the sound problem thanks for that. Now what i meant for the programms is that for example when i go to chromium app launcher i see the docs application. The thing is that when i open it it opens threw the web browser. How can i pin the docs at the dock so i wont need to go first to the cromium app launcher

        Like

      2. To pin an icon to the dock, it must first be running as a separate entity on the dock ie as a separate window and not as a browser tab. So, right-click the Docs icon in the app launcher and select Create Shortcuts. Untick Desktop and tick Applications Menu. Click OK. Then right-click the shortcut one more time and select Open as Window. Finally, launch docs with a single left click. It will appear in the dock. Now you can pin it by right-clicking and select Keep In Dock.

      6. I’ve been researching this issue for you. Whilst there seemed to be problems 5 years ago with that chip, it’s not really a current issue that’s cropping up. I know I have asked before, but have you tried all the different mixer options and output options in the Pulse Audio Volume Control and alsamixer. You might try muting unneeded channels and also trying the different configurations/profiles. Does it buzz when you play local music from a CD or MP3, not through the browser?

        Like

      7. I have tryied playing from mp3 but it keeps buzzing. What i have noticed is that the buzzing starts when i boot up the pc and after 5 minute it stops. If i play a music it may start again but it will stop again after a while. Also i noticed that when i go to alsomixer and i am changing thinks with each buzz the options goes to default again. For example i change the sound from 94 to 80 but when it buzz it goes again to 94.I have tried searching for drivers but i didn’t have any luck.

    1. Have you checked the iso for defects boot option? Did you check the md5sum or re-download the ISO? It also might be worth a full format of your usb stick before copying the Chromixium ISO again.

    1. You can if windows 10 is NOT installed in UEFI mode. Otherwise you need to try the 64 bit. BTW, Cub Linux x64 is at release candidate stage and very soon this site will redirect to Cub Linux.
